Igniting the Spark – Your First Days in Enshrouded
Your first steps in Embervale are the most critical. They lay the foundation for your entire adventure. Follow this wisdom, and you will build a legacy that withstands the Shroud. This chapter focuses on the essential actions you must take to establish a strong foothold in the world of Enshrouded.
Your Guiding Flame: Quests and Objectives
The world of Enshrouded is massive, and it can be tempting to run off in a random direction. However, the game masterfully guides you through its most critical unlocks with a clear questline. Trusting this path is the single most efficient way to begin your journey.
- Prioritize Early Quests. The initial quests are your lifeline. They are not simple tutorials; they are a carefully constructed path that leads you to unlock the five essential crafter NPCs, crucial gear, and the game’s most important traversal tools. Following these quests for the first few hours will accelerate your progress dramatically.
- Follow the Quest Funnel. Notice how the game’s quests lead you to exactly what you need, right when you need it. The quest to find the Blacksmith, for example, will place you in an area with Scavengers. These enemies drop Metal Scraps, the exact material you need to craft the Grappling Hook. Similarly, the first quest into the Shroud will guide you to Shroud Wood and Shroud Spores, which are required for the Glider. The game is designed as a chain reaction, so let the quests guide your hand.
- Focus on Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells. As you explore, your map will display dynamic objectives like Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells. Completing these is a primary source of Skill Points, which are vital for powering up your character. Make them a priority whenever you see them.
The Tools of a Survivor
You are nothing without your tools. Crafting the right gear from the very beginning saves immense time and effort.
- Craft an Axe and Pickaxe Immediately. Before you do anything else, gather 4 Twigs, 1 Stone, and 1 String to craft both an Axe and a Pickaxe. Using these tools to chop trees and mine rocks is far more efficient than using your weapons, yielding more resources and saving your weapon’s durability.
- Craft a Wand for Free Ranged Damage. One of the best early-game weapons is the simple Wand. It only requires 2 Bones to craft and, unlike a bow, needs no ammunition. This saves you a tremendous amount of resources and inventory space that would otherwise be spent on arrows.
- Craft a Better Torch. The basic torch you find is flimsy and prone to breaking. As soon as you unlock the Huntress NPC, craft an improved Resin or Wax Torch. Always carry extra Plant Fiber so you can quickly craft a new basic torch if your main one breaks unexpectedly in the dark.
Awakening the Ancients: Finding the Survivors
Your base is not just a home; it is a sanctuary for the last skilled artisans of the old world. Finding and housing them is your most important early-game goal.
- Find All Five Survivors ASAP. There are five craftspeople, or survivors, to rescue from Ancient Vaults across the starting region: the Blacksmith, Hunter, Alchemist, Carpenter, and Farmer. Each one unlocks a vast array of new crafting recipes, workshops, and quests. Rescuing all of them should be your top priority.
- Summon Your Crafters Correctly. Once you rescue a survivor, you are not done. You must first craft a Summoning Staff (it only costs 1 Twig). Then, ensure you have a sheltered area at your base (a simple floor and a roof will do). Equip the staff, press the summon key (Tab on PC), select the crafter, and place them in your base to unlock their services.
- Know Your Crafters’ Roles. Understanding who does what will help you prioritize your goals. This knowledge is the foundation of your entire crafting and building progression in Enshrouded.
NPC Survivor | Primary Role & Specialization |
Blacksmith | Melee Weapons, Armor, Shields, Tools, Metal Refining |
Hunter | Ranged Weapons, Arrows, Backpacks, Light Armor |
Alchemist | Magical Gear, Potions, Spells, Alchemical Resources |
Carpenter | Building Blocks, Furniture, Storage, Glider/Grappling Hook Upgrades |
Farmer | Farming, Seedbeds, Food Preparation, Animal Husbandry |
Establishing Your First Foothold
Your Flame Altar is the heart of your domain. It is your sanctuary and your beacon in the world of Enshrouded.
- Craft Your First Flame Altar. A Flame Altar is incredibly cheap, costing only 5 Stone. This item defines the area of your base, acts as a respawn point if you die, and serves as your very first fast travel point. Place it in a flat, open area to give yourself plenty of room to build.
- Your Starting Base Location is Excellent. The first clearing the game guides you to is an ideal spot for a long-term base. It is centrally located and surrounded by essential early-game resources like trees, berries, stone, flint, clay, and a nearby Shroud area. There is no need to rush to find a “better” spot.
- Customize Your Difficulty. If you find certain mechanics frustrating, you can adjust them. In the server settings before you launch your world, you can disable things like weapon durability. This allows you to tailor the Enshrouded experience to your personal playstyle, whether you want a relaxing adventure or a hardcore challenge.
The Art of Survival – Mastering Buffs and The Shroud
To thrive in Enshrouded, you must master its unique survival systems. Food is not for hunger, and sleep is not just for passing the time. These are powerful tools that, when used correctly, will transform you from a desperate survivor into a formidable Flameborn.
The Power of Comfort and Rest
Your ability to explore and fight is directly tied to a powerful status effect: the Rested buff. Maintaining this buff is one of the most important things you can do in Enshrouded.
- Always Adventure with the Rested Buff. The “Well Rested” buff provides a massive boost to your maximum stamina and stamina regeneration. This makes everything—sprinting, gliding, climbing, and fighting—significantly easier. Never leave your base without it.
- Understand the Comfort Buff. To gain the Rested buff, you need to be Sheltered (under a roof), Warm (near a fire), and Comfortable (sitting or sleeping). The combination of these elements activates the buff, which will then last for a set duration once you leave the area of comfort.
- Increase Your Comfort Level for a Longer Buff. The duration of your Rested buff is determined by your base’s “Comfort Level.” You can increase this level by placing furniture and decorations like beds, tables, chairs, and torches. A higher comfort level means a longer-lasting buff, allowing you to adventure for longer periods.
- You Only Get Credit Once Per Item Type. When calculating your comfort level, the game only gives you a bonus for one item from each category. This means having two chairs provides no more comfort than having one. To raise your comfort level, you need a variety of different furniture types.
- Always Carry a Campfire. When your Rested buff runs out in the wild, you can refresh it. Carry a portable campfire or the materials to craft one (5 Wood Logs). Simply place it on the ground, sit next to it for a moment, and your buff will be replenished. This is a true lifesaver on long journeys.
- Sleep to Skip the Night. Exploring at night is dark and dangerous. If you sleep in a bed, the game speed will increase by 60x, rapidly advancing time to morning. You will know it’s daytime when your character’s sleeping animation changes from curled on their side to relaxed on their back.
Food Is Power, Not a Chore
Forget everything other survival games have taught you about hunger and thirst. In Enshrouded, food and water are your primary source of powerful, long-lasting combat and exploration buffs.
- Food Provides Buffs, Not Satiety. You will never die of hunger or thirst in Enshrouded. Instead, consuming food and drinks grants you powerful status effects. For example, drinking water increases your maximum stamina and stamina recharge, while eating cooked meat boosts your constitution, increasing your health.
- Stack Up to Three Food Buffs. You can have three different food buffs active at once. These are displayed in the top-left corner of your screen. A great starting combination is Water (for stamina), Grilled Meat (for health), and Purple Berries (for health regeneration).
- Always Cook Your Food. Raw food provides minimal benefits and can even give you food poisoning. Always cook your meat, mushrooms, and other ingredients over a fire. The cooked versions provide substantially better and longer-lasting buffs.
- Watch for the Sizzle. To perfectly cook meat, hold it over a fire until it changes color and you hear a distinct hissing sound. Let go of the button immediately. If you hold it for too long, it will turn into useless tar.
- Time Passes in Menus. Be aware that buffs tick down even when you are in your inventory or crafting menus. If you plan to spend a lot of time managing your base, let your powerful exploration buffs expire first before activating new ones for your next adventure.
Navigating the Deadly Shroud
The Shroud is the defining threat of Enshrouded. This mysterious, deadly fog blankets the lowlands, hiding both terrifying monsters and priceless treasures. Learning to navigate it is key to your progression.
- Understand the Shroud Timer. When you enter the Shroud, a timer appears at the top of your screen. This is the maximum time you can survive before the fog consumes you. Your primary goal is always to complete your objective and get out before the timer expires.
- Plan Your Escape Route. Before venturing deep into a Shroud zone, have an escape route in mind. If your timer gets dangerously low (the game gives you a two-minute warning), do not push your luck. Begin heading back to safe, higher ground immediately.
- Look for Hourglass Capsules. Inside the Shroud, you will occasionally see objects with a reddish glow. These are often Hourglass Capsules. Interacting with one will instantly reset your Shroud timer to its maximum, allowing you to explore for much longer.
- Use Return Beacons to Recharge. You will also find Return Beacons in the Shroud, which act as respawn points. Standing near one will continuously replenish your Shroud timer back to full, giving you a safe spot to catch your breath.
- Know Your Shroud Colors. On the map, standard Shroud appears as a light blue mist. You can enter this safely. However, some areas are covered in a deep red mist. This is Deadly Shroud, and it will kill you in seconds. You cannot enter these zones until you have strengthened your Flame at a Flame Altar.
- Dig Your Way Out. You cannot fast travel while inside the Shroud. If you are deep inside and need a quick exit, run to the nearest cliff or steep hill at the edge of the fog. Use your pickaxe to dig a tunnel upwards into the terrain. Once you are high enough that the Shroud timer disappears, you can open your map and fast travel to safety.
- Shroud Survival Flasks Have a Catch. The Alchemist can craft Shroud Survival Flasks that increase your maximum time in the Shroud. However, you must drink the flask before you enter the Shroud. Consuming one while you are already inside will not add any time to your current timer.
Conquering Embervale – Exploration and Traversal Secrets
The world of Enshrouded is a massive, vertical landscape filled with secrets. Your ability to explore it depends less on your level and more on the unique traversal tools and skills you unlock. Mastering movement is the true key to unlocking the mysteries of Embervale.
The Holy Trinity of Traversal
There are three unlocks that are absolutely essential for exploring Enshrouded. Getting them should be your first major goal after establishing your base.
- Craft the Grappling Hook Immediately. As soon as you get Metal Scraps from the first Scavenger enemies you encounter, craft the Grappling Hook. Many areas and quests are inaccessible without it. This tool allows you to swing across gaps and pull yourself up to anchor points.
- Craft the Glider as Soon as Possible. The Glider lets you soar across the landscape from great heights, covering huge distances in seconds. You will unlock the recipe after finding Shroud Wood and Shroud Spores in the first Shroud zone. It is your primary method of long-distance travel.
- Glider and Grappling Hook Don’t Use Inventory Space. Once crafted, these essential tools are equipped directly to your character in special slots. They will not take up valuable space in your backpack, so you can always have them ready.
- Unlock the Double Jump Skill. This is arguably the most important skill in the entire game. As soon as you have the skill points, invest in Double Jump. It fundamentally transforms your ability to navigate the world, allowing you to reach higher ledges, correct mistakes, and explore areas that seem impossible to get to.
Building Your Own Travel Network in Enshrouded
Fast travel is vital for managing your time and resources in the sprawling world of Enshrouded. You have the power to create your own custom network.
- Unlock Ancient Spires. The massive towers you see across the landscape are Ancient Spires. Each one you reach and ascend becomes a permanent fast travel point. They also reveal large portions of the surrounding map. Activating them is a high priority.
- Use Flame Altars as a Custom Fast Travel Network. You are not limited to just one Flame Altar. As you strengthen your main Flame, you will gain the ability to place more altars around the world. These are incredibly cheap (just 5 Stone) and function as personal fast travel points.
- Carry a “Pocket” Flame Altar. Always keep at least one spare Flame Altar in your inventory. When you venture far from home, you can place it down to create a temporary checkpoint. This allows you to fast travel back to your main base to drop off loot, then immediately teleport back to where you left off. When you are done with the area, simply extinguish the altar to get your “allowance” back.
- Place Altars on High Ground. When placing a temporary Flame Altar for exploration, always put it on the highest mountain or cliff you can find. This gives you a perfect launch point to glide to any destination in the surrounding area.
Advanced Movement and Exploration Techniques
Once you have the basic tools, you can begin to master the art of movement in Enshrouded.
- Unlock the Updraft Skill. After you have Double Jump, your next priority for mobility should be the Updraft skill. This powerful ability allows you to use stamina to gain a significant vertical boost while gliding. It lets you cross even wider chasms and reach previously inaccessible heights.
- Combine Double Jump and Updraft. The ultimate traversal combo is to perform a double jump off a ledge and immediately open your glider, then trigger Updraft. This gives you maximum starting height and speed, allowing you to cover incredible distances.
- Rebind Your Glide Key. Many players find it clunky to have both jump and glide bound to the spacebar, as it can lead to accidentally opening the glider. Consider rebinding your glide key (perhaps to your dodge button) for more precise control during parkour and building.
- Follow the Roads to Save Stamina. When traveling on foot, try to stick to the roads and paths. You consume less stamina when sprinting on a road compared to running through the wilderness.
- You Can Scale Almost Any Mountain. With the Double Jump skill, you can climb seemingly impossible slopes. Much like a Skyrim horse, as long as the surface is not a perfectly vertical wall, you can repeatedly jump your way to the top.
Uncovering the World’s Hidden Secrets
Embervale is filled with secrets that reward observant players. Keep your eyes open for these clues.
- Destroy Everything. Smash every crate, barrel, pot, and piece of old furniture you find in abandoned settlements. They are a fantastic source of early-game resources like String, Metal Scraps, and Plant Fiber. Breaking new types of objects can also unlock new crafting recipes.
- Read Every Book and Note. Glowing red lore pages and books are scattered everywhere. Always read them. They not only provide story background but often contain clues (marked in bold text) that will add a new point of interest marker to your map.
- Look for Swords in the Ground. If you see a sword sticking out of a pile of dirt, it is a sign of buried treasure. Use your pickaxe to dig at that spot, and you will uncover a hidden chest.
- Find Hidden Walls and Buttons. Nearly every ruin has secrets. Look carefully for suspicious-looking walls. Often, a small, extruding button will be hidden nearby, sometimes obscured by pots or plants. Pressing it will reveal a secret room, frequently containing a valuable chest.
- Always Scout for a Back Entrance. Before charging into an enemy fortress through the main gate, take a moment to circle the perimeter. There is almost always a less-guarded back way in, such as a broken wall or a hidden path.
Combat for the Flameborn – From Basic Brawls to Boss Battles
Combat in Enshrouded is a deliberate dance of timing, positioning, and preparation. Whether you prefer the clash of steel, the whisper of an arrow, or the crackle of raw magic, understanding the core principles of battle is essential for defeating the horrors of the Shroud.
Choosing Your Path: The Styles of Combat
Every Flameborn can master any combat style, but understanding their fundamental differences will help you find the one that best suits you. The game balances these styles not just on damage, but on the type of “cost” they demand from you.
- Melee: The Path of Skill. Wielding swords, axes, and clubs is highly effective but demands the most from your personal skill. It has a low crafting cost since you do not need to make ammo, but it requires you to learn enemy attack patterns, master the timing of parries, and carefully manage your stamina for both offense and defense.
- Ranged: The Path of Preparation. Using a bow is a safe and powerful way to fight from a distance. However, it comes with a high crafting cost. You must constantly gather resources to craft arrows, and some materials, like feathers from birds, can be particularly frustrating to farm in large quantities.
- Magic: The Path of Mana. Magic is incredibly potent in Enshrouded. Wands offer a fantastic starting point with no ammo cost, but their power is gated by your mana pool. Staves unleash devastating spells but require you to craft finite charges until you can create or find powerful “Eternal” spells, which have an even higher mana cost per cast.
Mastering Melee Combat
- Patience is Your Greatest Weapon. Do not spam your attacks. Enshrouded combat rewards a measured approach. Attack once or twice, then prepare to defend. Learn the rhythm of each enemy’s attack pattern.
- Master the Parry. While blocking with a shield is effective, it consumes stamina with each hit you absorb. A perfectly timed block just as an enemy’s attack is about to land will result in a parry. Parrying costs no stamina and deals massive stun damage to your foe.
- Break Their Guard to Stagger Them. Underneath an enemy’s health bar is a gray stagger bar. You can fill this bar by parrying their attacks or by hitting them while they are blocking. Once the bar is full, the enemy will be staggered and completely vulnerable for a few seconds.
- Unleash the Merciless Attack. Once an enemy is staggered, you can perform a Merciless Attack (a skill you must unlock) for massive damage. This is the key to defeating heavily armored or high-health enemies efficiently.
- Dodging Requires Space. Unlike many action RPGs, the dodge roll in Enshrouded does not have invincibility frames (i-frames). You cannot roll through an attack. You must use the dodge to physically move your character out of the path of the enemy’s weapon.
The Ways of the Ranger and Mage
- Aim for the Head. As a ranger, headshots deal critical damage. Taking a moment to line up your shot is almost always worth it.
- Kite Your Enemies. As a ranged or magic user, your greatest advantage is distance. Use the terrain to your advantage. Jump up on rocks, lead enemies through narrow doorways, and always keep moving to maintain a safe distance.
- Wands are Great for Flying Foes. The auto-aiming nature of wands makes them particularly effective against fast-moving or flying enemies that can be difficult to hit with a bow. A simple wand-and-shield combination is a reliable strategy.
- Charge Spells from Cover. When using a staff, you can hold down the charge button while safely behind a pillar or wall. Once the spell is fully charged, you can quickly peek out, release the spell, and duck back into cover.
Universal Combat Strategies for Enshrouded
- Stealth is a Powerful Opener. Always approach enemy camps while crouched. Use bushes for cover. The “Sneak Attack” skill allows you to deal huge damage with your first strike, often eliminating one enemy before the fight even begins.
- Use the Environment to Your Advantage. Explosive barrels are scattered throughout enemy camps for a reason. A single well-placed arrow can detonate a barrel, often clearing out an entire group of enemies instantly. Be careful not to stand too close yourself!
- Exploit Elemental Weaknesses. Pay attention to the world’s logic. Shroud-corrupted creatures are often weak to fire damage. Human enemies in metal armor might be more susceptible to other elements like cold or shock.
- Isolate Your Targets. Facing a large group of enemies is a recipe for disaster. Try to pull one or two enemies away from the main group at a time using a bow or wand. This allows you to deal with them in a more controlled fight.
- Interrupt Boss Summons. Many bosses in Enshrouded have a special move where they rear back to summon minions or charge a powerful attack. This is your moment to strike. Hitting them in their glowing weak spot (often their mouth or chest) during this animation will interrupt the attack and stun them, leaving them open for a massive damage phase.
- Manage Your Healing Supplies. Bandages provide slow health regeneration over 10 seconds and are best used between fights or when you can create distance. Health Potions provide an instant burst of healing and should be saved for life-or-death emergencies in the middle of combat.
Architect of a New World – Enshrouded Building & Crafting
In Enshrouded, you are not just a survivor; you are a rebuilder of a lost kingdom. The voxel-based building system offers incredible freedom, allowing you to create everything from a simple, cozy cottage to a grand, sprawling fortress. Thinking like an architect—and sometimes, like a sculptor—is the key to unlocking its full potential.
Your Essential Building Toolkit
To begin your architectural career in Enshrouded, you need to master three essential tools.
- The Construction Hammer is Your Primary Tool. This is used for placing pre-defined shapes, from single blocks to entire walls and roofs. You can quickly cycle through shapes with the scroll wheel, change materials with CTRL + scroll wheel, and switch between shape categories with ALT + scroll wheel.
- The Pickaxe is for Major Demolition. Use the pickaxe to dig into the earth, mine through stone, and remove large sections of terrain. This is the only terraforming method that actually gathers resources like dirt and stone into your inventory.
- The Rake is for Fine-Tuning Terrain. The Rake is used to flatten and smooth the ground. First, aim at a patch of ground that is at the desired height. Then, click and drag the Rake’s area of effect over the uneven terrain to bring it all to that same level.
Smart Building for an Efficient Enshrouded Base
Building a massive castle takes a lot of resources. These tips will help you build smarter, not harder.
- Use Ceilings as Floors. Foundation blocks are thick and expensive. For any floor above the ground level, use ceiling blocks instead. They are four times cheaper and function identically, saving you an enormous amount of materials.
- Build Multiple Production Workshops. Many workshops, like the Charcoal Kiln, Smelter, and Forge, refine materials over time. To avoid bottlenecks, build multiples of each. Having three or four kilns running simultaneously will dramatically increase your production of essential materials like charcoal, tar, and metal bars.
- Claim Pre-Built Structures. You don’t have to build from scratch. You can find a ruined village or an abandoned tower you like, clear out the enemies, and place a Flame Altar inside to claim it as your own. These locations often come with a high starting Comfort Level thanks to the existing furniture.
- Deconstruct for Free Blocks. If you claim an existing building, you can use your Construction Hammer’s “remove” function on its walls and floors. This will add the corresponding building blocks to your inventory for free, allowing you to repurpose or expand the structure with matching materials.
Advanced Terraforming and Design Techniques
The true magic of the Enshrouded building system comes from manipulating the world itself. Think of it as sculpting with blocks.
- Use Blocks for Rapid Excavation. The fastest way to dig a large, perfectly shaped basement or tunnel is not with a pickaxe. Instead, place large building blocks (like the 4m floor block) where you want to dig, and then use the hammer’s remove function. Deleting the block will instantly remove all the terrain it occupied. Repeat this process to carve out huge spaces in seconds.
- Master “Destructive Creation”. The voxel system allows you to remove single blocks from larger pre-fabricated shapes. Place a large wall piece, then switch your hammer to the single-block mode. You can now right-click to “carve” out windows, arches, or intricate patterns from the larger piece, giving you far more creative control.
- Build Thick Walls for Depth. Avoid building flat, single-layer walls. Instead, make your exterior walls two blocks thick. This allows you to use different materials for the interior and exterior. More importantly, it lets you create depth by adding columns, framing windows, or removing blocks from the outer layer to create recesses.
- Mix Your Materials. A building made from a single material looks bland. Create visual interest by using a stone foundation for the first few layers of a wall, then transitioning to wood or half-timbered blocks for the upper levels. Use a different block type to frame your windows and doors.
- Create Custom Railings with Roofing. Standard fences can look plain. For a more substantial and unique railing, use roofing blocks. Place posts, then connect them by laying a row of single roof blocks horizontally between them. You can even stack them for a thicker look.
- Hide Your Light Sources. Luminous blocks are a great way to light your base, but they can be jarring. Try hiding them behind other blocks or inside double walls. This creates a soft, atmospheric glow that seeps through the cracks without a visible source.
- Age Your Creations. Use the foliage and decay tools in the building menu to add a touch of age to your structures. A little bit of overgrowth or weathered texture can make your base feel like a natural part of the world of Enshrouded.
The Alchemist’s Satchel – Advanced Resource & Inventory Management
As you delve deeper into Enshrouded, your pockets will overflow with resources, gear, and mysterious artifacts. Managing this ever-growing collection can become a game in itself. The key is to see inventory management not as a chore, but as a system you can master and upgrade through progression.
The Magic of Automated Crafting
The single most important upgrade to your quality of life in Enshrouded is unlocking the ability to craft from storage.
- Magic Chests are Mandatory. As soon as the Carpenter can craft them, make Magic Chests your top priority. Any crafting materials placed inside these chests are globally available to you and all your crafting stations within your base’s build radius. This eliminates the tedious need to run back and forth, pulling materials from chests to craft.
- Crafting from Storage is a Progression Path. The game intentionally starts you with limited inventory and basic chests to create a sense of struggle. Unlocking larger backpacks from the Hunter is your first upgrade. Unlocking Magic Chests is the next, game-changing step. Rushing the Carpenter to get these chests is one of the best strategic decisions you can make.
Organizing Your Hoard
An organized base is an efficient base. A few simple tricks can save you hours of searching for that one misplaced item.
- Utilize the “Quick Stack” Feature. When you return to your base with a full inventory, you don’t need to open every chest. Just get near your storage area and press the “Quick Stack” key (Shift+R on PC). This will automatically deposit any item from your inventory into a nearby chest that already contains a stack of that same item.
- Create a “Landing Zone”. To make Quick Stack even more effective, designate a few large chests near your main fast travel point as a “landing zone.” After an adventure, simply dump everything there. Later, you can take a moment to organize the new items into their permanent, specialized chests. This gets you back out adventuring faster.
- Specialize Your Storage. Create dedicated chests for different categories of items: one for all wood types, one for stone and dirt, one for metal ores and bars, one for Shroud materials, and so on. Placing these specialized chests near their relevant crafting stations (e.g., the wood chest by the Carpenter’s saw) further streamlines your workflow.
- Use Visual Labels for Chests. Since you cannot name chests, create visual cues. Place a single item of the chest’s contents in the very first slot. When you look at the chest from the outside, the icon for that first item will be displayed, instantly telling you what’s inside without having to open it.
- Cosmetic Slots are Extra Storage. In a pinch, your unused cosmetic armor slots can serve as extra storage. This is particularly useful for holding onto an extra set of armor you find while your main inventory is full.
Advanced Farming and Resource Tricks
Efficiently gathering resources is crucial in Enshrouded. These techniques will help you multiply your gains.
- Start a Flax Farm Immediately. You will need a huge amount of Flax to craft Linen for mid- and late-game armor sets. As soon as you unlock the Farmer and find your first Flax seeds, start a large, dedicated farm. You can never have too much.
- Farm Chests by Resetting the World. Any chest located outside the protective radius of one of your Flame Altars will respawn its contents every time you exit to the main menu and reload your world. You can use this to repeatedly farm chests that are known to contain valuable resources or rare gear.
- Duplicate Your Plants for Free. After you place a seedling in a farm plot, you can immediately interact with it again. This will consume the plant but give you two back in your inventory, effectively doubling your plants for free.
- Multiply Terrain Blocks. You can generate infinite terrain blocks like dirt or stone. Use your Construction Hammer to place the largest terrain block shape you have (e.g., the 4m box). Then, use your pickaxe to mine that block. The number of resources you get back from mining it will be far greater than the cost to place it, giving you a net gain.
Ascending to Legend – Endgame Builds and Gear Farming
You have conquered the early game, mastered the Shroud, and built a thriving sanctuary. Now, the final stage of your journey in Enshrouded begins: ascending to legendary status. This means perfecting your character build and hunting down the most powerful gear in all of Embervale.
Perfecting Your Flameborn: Skills and Builds
The endgame is all about specialization and optimization. With a high level and plenty of skill points, you can create truly powerful character builds.
- Respeccing is Almost Free. Do not be afraid to experiment! Resetting your skill points at a Flame Altar costs a mere 10 Runes. This is practically free, so you should frequently adjust your build to tackle specific bosses or try out new playstyles.
- Unlock These Skills on Any Build. While builds vary, some skills are so powerful that they are considered essential for almost any playstyle:
- Double Jump: The ultimate mobility tool.
- Updraft: For unparalleled gliding distance.
- Emergency Blink: A teleport-dodge that can save you from certain death.
- Water Aura: A passive healing skill that significantly increases your survivability, especially for mages.
- Warrior Build Focus. An endgame Warrior build focuses on maximizing Strength and Constitution. Key skills like Battle Heal (which heals you on a melee critical strike) combined with gear that boosts critical strike chance can make you nearly unkillable.
- Ranger Build Focus. The endgame Ranger is a glass cannon, prioritizing Dexterity above all else. Skills that increase headshot damage, critical chance (Sharpshooter), and arrow spread (Multishot) are vital. Your strategy revolves around stealth, surprise attacks, and maintaining distance.
- Mage Build Focus. The endgame Mage is a master of crowd control and burst damage. Focus on Intelligence and Spirit. A common strategy is to use a wand with the Mana Leech perk to regenerate mana, then swap to a powerful staff to unleash high-cost spells like Fireball or Light Burst.
The Hunt for Legendary Gear in Enshrouded
The most powerful weapons and armor in Enshrouded are not crafted; they are found. The endgame gear hunt revolves around efficiently farming high-level chests.
- Master the Legendary Chest Farm. The core method for farming legendary gear is simple but repetitive. First, you must find a high-level golden chest in one of the endgame zones. Next, place a Flame Altar nearby, but make sure its build radius does not touch the chest. Loot the chest, then exit to the main menu and reload your world. The chest will have respawned with new loot. Repeat this process until you get the gear you want.
- Target the Best Farming Locations. While any golden chest can be farmed, some are far more efficient than others.
- The Northeastern Cave: Located on the border between the Kindlewastes and Nomad Highlands, this hidden cave contains a chest that requires lockpicks but has a very high chance to drop level 23 legendary sets like Gloom Monarch and Hawk.
- The Southeastern Ledge: In the far southeast corner of the Kindlewastes, near a Sun Temple, is a chest on a cliff ledge. It does not require a lockpick and can drop level 25 sets like Radiant Paladin and Elder. However, its loot pool is larger, so it may take more attempts to get what you want.
- Sun Temples: These endgame dungeons are filled with high-level enemies and multiple golden chests, making them excellent, albeit more dangerous, farming locations.
- Salvage Unwanted Gear for Runes. As you farm for legendary items, you will accumulate a mountain of epic and rare gear. Do not simply discard it. Salvage these items to get Runes, which are used by the Blacksmith to upgrade the weapons and shields you decide to keep.
Life After the Main Quest
The story of Enshrouded may have an end, but your adventure does not have to. The endgame is what you make of it.
- Become a Master Architect. With all building materials unlocked and a wealth of resources, now is the time to build your dream castle. Design and construct a massive, intricate base that stands as a monument to your journey. You can even build themed outposts in each of the world’s different biomes.
- Become a Completionist. For those who love to check every box, the endgame is the perfect time to hunt down every secret. Clear every question mark from the map, find every lore page, destroy every Shroud Root, and unlock every fast travel point.
- Help Your Fellow Flameborn. Join a friend’s world and use your endgame power to help them conquer tough bosses, clear difficult areas, and progress through their own journey in the world of Enshrouded.
The Shroud may be eternal, but so is the Flame. This tome has given you the knowledge. Now go forth, Flameborn, and reclaim your world.
