The sun beats down on your busted ride. Cacti and withered trees are your only companions. Welcome to Sand Land, a world as beautiful as it is brutal. But don’t worry, you’ve got a fiend prince on your side and this guide in your hands. Together, we’ll turn you from a lost wanderer into a wasteland legend, one tricked-out tank at a time. This ultimate guide is packed with quick spoiler-free tips and tricks covering every facet of Sand Land gameplay. We’ll cover everything from your first wobbly steps in the desert to pro-level vehicle customization and hidden mechanics that the game never tells you about. Let’s get started!
Getting Started in Sand Land: Your First Steps in the Desert
Your initial hours in Sand Land set the stage for your entire adventure. Making the right moves early on will save you a world of hurt and grinding later. Follow these foundational tips to start your journey on the right foot.
- Choose Your Difficulty, But Don’t Stress. Sand Land offers three difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Normal provides the balanced experience the game was designed around, with a decent challenge in boss fights. However, you can change the difficulty at any time in the settings menu, so don’t agonize over your initial choice. If a boss is giving you trouble, you can lower the difficulty for that fight and raise it again later.
- The “Spino Rush” is the Optimal Start. It’s tempting to explore every corner of the map from the get-go, but resist that urge. Your number one priority should be to push through the main story quests until you reach the city of Spino. This is your main base of operations for the entire game.
- Why Rush to Spino? Reaching Spino unlocks several critical game systems simultaneously. You gain access to Ann’s Garage for vehicle crafting and upgrades, the ability to fast travel, and the start of the town-building mechanic, all of which are essential for progression.
- Loot the Demon Village Thoroughly. Before you even set out on your quest, take the time to explore every inch of the Demon Village. Climb the walls and double-jump to reach hidden red barrels and treasure chests. The materials you gather here will give you a valuable head start once you unlock crafting.
- Punch Every Tree and Cactus. This isn’t just for fun. Every withered tree and cactus you destroy, either with Beelzebub’s fists or a vehicle’s weapon, drops crafting materials. Start harvesting them from the very beginning to build a massive stockpile.
- Ore Deposits Are Your Best Friends. Keep an eye on your mini-map for green dots. These mark the locations of ore deposits. Always take a moment to dismount and mine them. Materials like Iron Ore are the foundation for almost all early-game vehicle parts.
- Master Your Vehicle Capsules. Beelzebub can carry up to five vehicle capsules at once. This is your active loadout. You can summon any of these five vehicles instantly, so choose a versatile lineup.
- Learn Your Mini-Map Icons. Besides the green dots for ore, your mini-map will show enemies as white markers. When they spot you, they turn red. Understanding these basic icons will help you avoid unwanted fights or prepare for an ambush.
Mastering the Wastes: Sand Land Exploration & Survival Secrets
Once you’ve reached Spino and have your bearings, the true exploration of Sand Land begins. The world is massive, and traversing it efficiently is the key to becoming a powerful wasteland warrior.
- Activate Every Radio Tower First. When you enter a new region, your first objective should always be to find and repair its Radio Towers. Activating them unfogs the entire map for that area, revealing all points of interest, including towns, ruins, and water points. This saves you countless hours of manual exploration.
- Water Supply Points are Fast Travel Points. This is one of the most important tips in all of Sand Land. Water Supply Points don’t just refill your health and water gauge; activating one permanently unlocks it as a fast travel location. Go out of your way to activate every single one you see.
- Don’t Hoard “Sell Only” Items. Check the descriptions of materials in your inventory. Some items, like Glittering Green Scales, Silver Ore, Gold Ore, and Radiant Red Exoskeletons, are explicitly marked as being for sale. They have no other purpose. Sell them immediately to any peddler you find.
- Zeni is King. The money (Zeni) you get from selling those items is crucial. You’ll need it to pay for vehicle assembly costs at the garage and to buy rare components from vendors that are a pain to farm. A healthy wallet accelerates your progress significantly.
- Loot From Your Vehicle. The game doesn’t tell you this, but you don’t need to get out of your vehicle to collect resources or open chests. You can shoot ore veins with your tank’s cannon and then simply drive over the materials to collect them. For chests, just drive right up to them until the “Open” prompt appears. This is a massive time-saver.
- Raid Ruins for Ancient Coins. Ruins are mini-dungeons scattered across the world. Their main treasures are Ancient Chests, which contain Ancient Coins in Copper, Silver, and Gold varieties.
- Buy Treasure Maps with Ancient Coins. Take your Ancient Gold Coins to Lassi, the Trading Post merchant found in most settlements (look for the weighing scales icon). She sells Treasure Maps for each region. These maps will reveal the location of every single treasure chest on your main map, making 100% completion much easier.
- Blue Dots Mean Treasure. Once you’ve purchased a Treasure Map, chests will appear as blue markers on your mini-map, guiding you to valuable loot.
- Destroy Enemy Vehicles for the Best Loot. While wildlife drops useful materials, enemy vehicles drop the good stuff. They yield more advanced materials and occasionally even drop fully intact vehicle parts that you can equip immediately. Always take out bandit patrols and Royal Army squads.
- Remember to Pick Up Parts. Unlike raw materials, which are automatically collected when you drive over them, vehicle Parts dropped by enemies must be manually picked up. They appear as glowing blue items on the ground. Make sure you interact with them before leaving the area.
- Listen for Thief. If you have Thief’s treasure-finding skill unlocked, he will audibly announce when a hidden item is nearby. When you hear his cue, activate his skill to reveal the treasure’s location.

Beelzebub’s Fiendish Fists: On-Foot Combat & Skills
While vehicle combat is the main event in Sand Land, you’ll often find yourself fighting on foot, especially inside buildings or during stealth missions. Mastering Beelzebub’s demonic abilities is crucial for survival.
- Lock On! When fighting as Beelzebub, always press down on the right stick to lock onto an enemy. The on-foot combat is fast-paced, and locking on ensures your attacks connect.
- The Red Flash Means Dodge. Enemies will flash red just before they unleash a powerful or unblockable attack. This is your universal cue to dodge immediately.
- Mix Light and Heavy Attacks. Beelzebub has both light and heavy attacks. A simple combo is to use a few light attacks and then end with a heavy attack for a powerful finisher.
- Unlock
Enhance Weak Attack
First. This should be your very first skill point purchase. The vast majority of your on-foot damage comes from weak attack combos, and this skill provides a significant boost right away. - Get
Brace For Attack
Immediately After. This skill allows you to press the dodge button to instantly recover after being knocked down. It is an absolute lifesaver that prevents enemies from getting free follow-up hits on you. Aerial Evasion
is Your Third Priority. Many enemies, especially robotic drones inside facilities, will attack you from the air. This skill lets you dodge while in mid-air, closing a major defensive blind spot.- Understand the Power of Darkness. The purple bar under your health is your Power of Darkness meter. It fills as you deal and take damage. This meter is the fuel for your special moves.
- Use
Rush
for Big Damage.Rush
is your first and most reliable Power of Darkness ability. It unleashes a flurry of punches and is perfect for chunking down the health of tougher enemies or bosses. - Use
Dark Release
for Crowd Control. When you’re surrounded by smaller enemies, useDark Release
. It creates a powerful blast of energy that damages everyone around you. - Master Stealth Takedowns. To enter stealth, press L2/LT. Sneak up behind an enemy and press the prompt to perform a silent takedown.
- Read the Stealth Triangles. Every enemy in a stealth section has a triangle over their head. A white triangle means they are unaware of you. Yellow means they are suspicious and might spot you if you get too close. Red means they will spot you almost instantly. Avoid enemies with red triangles at all costs.
- You Can Run Up Behind Guards. A hidden stealth mechanic allows you to run directly up to the back of a guard without alerting them, as long as you stay out of their cone of vision. This speeds up stealth sections considerably.
- Use Cover to Break Line of Sight. If an enemy’s awareness meter (a question mark above their head) starts to fill, quickly duck behind a crate or wall to break their line of sight and reset their suspicion.

The Art of Vehicular Warfare in Sand Land
This is the core of Sand Land‘s gameplay. Mastering your machines is the difference between ruling the wastes and becoming scrap metal. These universal combat strategies apply to nearly every vehicle you’ll pilot.
- Your Boost is Your Dodge. This is the single most important combat tip. The initial burst of speed from activating your vehicle’s boost provides a moment of invincibility and repositions you. Use short, controlled bursts of boost to dodge incoming rockets and cannon fire, not for long-distance travel in a fight.
- Feather the Boost for Speed. Outside of combat, you can maintain a high top speed without overheating your engine by quickly tapping the boost button on and off just as the initial speed burst is about to fade.
- Juggle Your Weapons. Never stop firing. Fire your powerful primary weapon (like a tank cannon), and while it’s reloading, immediately switch to your secondary weapon (like a machine gun) and keep firing. By the time your secondary needs to reload, your primary will be ready again. This maximizes your damage-per-second.
- Swap Damaged Vehicles Instantly. Your five-vehicle loadout is a shared health pool. If your tank is about to be destroyed, don’t wait for it to explode. Instantly swap to another vehicle in your capsule loadout. You’ll appear in the new vehicle with a full health bar, effectively giving you five lives in every fight.
- Use the Right Tool for the Job. Don’t fight agile Jump-Bots with a slow tank. Swap to your own Jump-Bot to match their mobility. Fighting fast motorbikes? Switch to your own bike or a vehicle with a rapid-fire Gatling gun. Tailor your vehicle to the enemy you’re facing.
- Circle-Strafe Everything. Never drive straight at or away from an enemy. Always be moving sideways, circling your target while keeping your weapons trained on them. The enemy AI has a very difficult time hitting a moving target, and you’ll avoid most incoming damage this way.
- Primary vs. Secondary Weapons. Use your slow-firing, high-damage primary weapons on large, durable targets like other tanks and bosses. Use your faster-firing, more accurate secondary weapons to pick off small, weak, or fast-moving enemies like soldiers and raptors.
- Reload Strategically. Reloading takes time and leaves you vulnerable. It’s often faster to reload a partially empty clip than a fully empty one. If there’s a lull in the fight, reload your weapons even if they’re not empty.
- Use Rao’s Decoy Tank. Sheriff Rao’s
Vehicular Warfare
skill is one of the best in the game. It summons a mini-tank that draws enemy fire. Use it when you’re outnumbered to take the pressure off yourself. Upgrade it withVW: Upgrade
to make it last longer. - Use Thief’s Plunder to Disable Enemies. Thief’s
Plunder
active skill can steal items from enemy vehicles and has a chance to cause them to break down, leaving them as sitting ducks for a follow-up attack. - Use Ann’s Skills for Peak Performance. Ann is your mechanic, and her skills reflect that. Activate
Fuel Saver
to make your boost-dodging more efficient, allowing you to dodge more often without overheating. - Combine Companion Skills. Don’t forget you can activate multiple companion skills at once. Popping Rao’s decoy tank and Ann’s fuel saver at the start of a tough fight is a fantastic opening move.

- DLC Customization. The Deluxe Edition and other DLC packs add exclusive decals, furniture sets, and custom vehicle colors.
The Craftsman’s Corner: Material Crafting & Farming Loops
The best gear in Sand Land isn’t found; it’s built. Understanding the crafting system and knowing where to farm rare materials is the key to late-game power.
- Crafting 101: Refine Your Materials. You can’t just slap raw Iron Ore onto a tank. You must take raw materials to a Workshop (found in Junker Markets and Spino) to refine them into usable parts like B-Grade Steel, which is then used to make bolts, gears, and springs.
- Unlock Recipes Through Quests. The best crafting recipes are not available at the start. You unlock them by progressing the main story and, more importantly, by completing the side quest chains for the vendors you recruit to Spino.
- “Searching Amidst Fog” is Key. This specific Spino side quest is the gateway to unlocking the highest tier of crafting materials, such as Superhard Panthator Alloy. Prioritize completing all quests for your Spino vendors.
- Upgrade Thief’s Loot Skills ASAP. To maximize your farming efficiency, invest skill points into Thief’s passive abilities
Spoils of War
andPilfering Pro
. These significantly increase the amount of money and items you get from every single enemy you defeat. - Always Raid Caves, Buttes, and Ruins. These locations are guaranteed sources of materials and chests. Make it a habit to clear out every single one you find.
- Repeat Bounties for Better Loot. Bounties aren’t one-and-done. You can repeat them at higher difficulty levels. This is one of the best ways to farm for rare materials and high-level vehicle parts.
- Farm the Treasure Geji Dragon. Late in the game, the repeatable bounty for the Treasure Geji Dragon becomes an excellent source of top-tier loot.
- Force Respawn Enemies. To farm a specific enemy vehicle for its parts, find a reliable spawn point. After destroying them, fast travel to a nearby dungeon (like a Battleship or Ruin), enter it, and immediately exit. This will force all the enemies in the overworld to respawn, allowing you to farm them again instantly.
- Use the “Travel Beacon” Chip. Some vehicles can equip a “Travel Beacon” EX Chip. This allows you to place a custom fast travel point anywhere on the map. Find a great farming spot with multiple enemy vehicles, drop your beacon, and you can warp back instantly after every respawn cycle.
- Save Scum for Legendary Parts. For the rarest drops (Legendary or Mythic rarity), you can use a classic RPG trick. Save your game right before you engage a bounty target. Defeat them and check their loot. If they didn’t drop the part you want, simply reload your save and try again until they do.
- Thief’s Vacuum Skill is a Farming Godsend. Unlock Thief’s vacuum ability as soon as you can. It sucks up all nearby materials, including from destructible trees and cacti. You can even use it from inside a vehicle to hoover up resources without stopping.
- Farm Plant Matter Outside Spino. The area just outside Spino is dense with withered trees. A few uses of Thief’s vacuum skill here will net you hundreds of Plant Matter, which can be refined into crucial Vegetable Oil.
Beyond the Battlefield: Spino, Bounties, and Side Activities
The world of Sand Land is more than just combat and exploration. Engaging with its side activities is not optional for those who want to see everything and become as powerful as possible.
- Spino is Your Power Hub. Recruiting NPCs to Spino isn’t just a feel-good side quest. It is a core progression mechanic. Each new resident can open a shop or provide a service.
- Better Shops = Better Gear. Completing quests for your Spino shopkeepers will upgrade their inventory, giving you access to the best crafting materials, vehicle parts, and EX Chips in the game. A fully upgraded Spino is a one-stop shop for everything you need.
- Hunt Bounties for New Vehicles. Many vehicle frames, which are required to build a new type of vehicle, are locked as rewards for specific bounty hunts. If you want to expand your garage, you must become a bounty hunter.
- Race for Unique Rewards. The various vehicle races scattered across the world offer more than just bragging rights. Winning them can reward you with rare parts and even new vehicle frames.
- Conquer the Battle Arena. The Battle Arena offers a series of combat challenges that reward you with some of the most powerful and unique vehicle parts in Sand Land, including Mythic-level gear that you can’t get anywhere else.
- Return Lost Property. As you explore, you’ll find random items like a Tattered Old Toy or a paintbrush. These are Lost Property items. Their descriptions provide a hint about their owner. Find the correct NPC and return the item for a small reward, some interesting lore, and progress towards achievements.
- Talk to Everyone. Many side quests and optional objectives are not marked on your map. They are only discovered by talking to every NPC you meet in towns and outposts. These often lead to valuable rewards.
- Customize Your Room. In Spino, you can unlock and customize your own room with furniture, wallpaper, and other decorations. This is a fun way to express yourself and make your base feel like home.
Pro-Level Tactics & Hidden Mechanics in Sand Land
These are the tricks that separate the rookies from the legends of the wasteland. Master these hidden mechanics to gain a serious edge.
- Tanks HATE Gravity. Beelzebub and light vehicles like the Jump-Bot can fall from any height without taking damage. Tanks, however, will take massive damage if you drive them off a cliff. Before taking a big plunge, always swap to your Jump-Bot or dismount.
- Double-Jump to Negate Fall Damage. When on foot, you can completely negate fall damage from any height by performing a double-jump just before you hit the ground.
- Instant Vehicle Mounting. When you throw a vehicle capsule, press the attack button (X on PlayStation, A on Xbox) during the throwing animation. You will instantly appear inside the vehicle, skipping the boarding animation.
- Use Autopilot in Races. During races, you can toggle autopilot on straight sections of the track. This allows you to focus purely on managing your boost while the AI handles the basic steering. Toggle it off for sharp turns.
- Alpha Enemies are Tougher. Enemies with a red skull icon above their health bar are “Alpha” variants. They are significantly tougher than their normal counterparts and should be approached with caution, preferably in your strongest vehicle.
- Hunt Unmarked Mini-Bosses. Keep an eye out for exceptionally large versions of normal creatures, like giant scorpions or pteranodons. These are unmarked mini-bosses. Defeating them rewards you with rare, high-tier crafting materials like the Don Pterano Wing.
- Stealth is for More Than Just Story Missions. Some optional Royal Army bases and facilities can only be looted successfully by using stealth. The game will cue you in with its signature stealth music.
- Change Your Controls. If you don’t like the default vehicle controls, you can change them in the options menu. Many players find enabling “Vehicle Camera Tracking” makes steering and aiming in races and combat much easier.
- Save Before Side Quest Choices. Some side quests will present you with a choice. If you want to see all possible outcomes, save your game before you accept the quest or make the decision.
- Keep Voice Audio On. Your companions often give useful audio cues. Thief will tell you when treasure is nearby, and Rao will often shout out combat advice.
- Check Behind Everything. The developers of Sand Land love to hide chests and secrets in every nook and cranny. Always check behind waterfalls, in small alcoves, and in the corners of boss arenas after a fight.
- Don’t Fear High-Level Enemies. With skilled boost-dodging and a well-upgraded tank, you can take on enemies that are a significantly higher level than you. It just requires patience and a lot of movement.
- The Hopper is Better Than the Jump-Bot for Exploration. While the Jump-Bot is your first verticality tool, the Hopper (unlocked via a side quest) is often better. It’s smaller, fitting into tight cave entrances and ruins, has a built-in flashlight, and has the same jumping capabilities.
- The Motorbike Can Jump Gaps. The Motorbike is the only ground-based speed vehicle that can effectively jump over gaps using ramps. The Dune Buggy and other wheeled vehicles don’t get the same airtime.
- Destroying Hostile Vehicles Can Unlock Parts. Even if you don’t have the frame to build a certain vehicle yet, destroying that type of vehicle in the wild has a chance to drop a high-level part for it. This can allow you to build a powerful version of that vehicle as soon as you unlock its frame.
- The Forest Land Expansion. The main game includes a massive expansion beyond the original manga’s story, taking you to the lush new region of Forest Land. This area features new characters, vehicles, and powerful enemies.
- You Can Travel Between Sand Land and Forest Land. Once you unlock Forest Land, you are not locked in. You can freely travel back and forth between the two worlds at any time to complete side quests or farm materials.
- New Game Plus? Sand Land does not feature a traditional New Game Plus mode, so aim to complete everything on a single playthrough.
- Difficulty Affects Combat, Not Loot. Changing the difficulty primarily affects enemy HP, damage, and AI aggression. It does not appear to affect item drop rates or the quality of loot.
- Aim Mode for Grenade Launchers. When using a vehicle with a grenade launcher or mortar, like the Jump-Bot, use the Aim Mode. It will display a white circle on the ground showing where your shot will land. Wait for it to turn red over an enemy to guarantee a direct hit.
- Use Rao’s
Poison Gas
for a Breather. Another excellent skill for Rao isPoison Gas
. It can confuse and incapacitate groups of enemies, giving you a crucial opening to attack or heal. - Don’t Neglect Your Town’s Waterwheel. A side quest allows you to build a waterwheel for Spino. Make sure to complete it, as it’s part of the town’s overall progression.
- EX Chip Hunt Side Quest. Be on the lookout for the “EX Chip Hunt” side quest. It’s a great way to get your hands on some powerful EX Chips early in the game.
- Furniture Has No Gameplay Buffs. Decorating your room in Spino is purely cosmetic. Don’t worry about finding the “best” furniture for stat bonuses, as there are none.
- Some Bounties Unlock Other Bounties. The bounty system has its own progression. Defeating certain gang leaders (like the Diamonds, Spades, Hearts, and Clubs) will often unlock a bounty for their boss (the Jokers).
- Check Vendor Stock Regularly. Peddlers and shopkeepers will update their inventory as you progress through the game. If you’re stuck looking for a specific material, check back with them after completing a few main story missions.
- You Can Trade Ore for Parts. Some vendors, particularly in Junker Markets, will allow you to trade common materials like ore directly for scrap components, which can be a good deal if you’re swimming in ore.
- Check Your Gear Often. Your companions will frequently remind you to “check your gear.” They’re right! You might have picked up a powerful new weapon or part from a destroyed enemy vehicle without realizing it. You can equip new parts on the fly from the vehicle menu without returning to a garage.
- Infinite Ammo, No Excuses. All vehicle weapons have infinite ammunition. The only limitation is reloading. So, don’t be shy about shooting everything that moves (and some things that don’t, like cacti).
- Drift for Fun and Profit. When driving the Motorbike or Car, don’t forget you can drift! It’s not only fun but also essential for getting the best times in the racing side quests.
- Quick Heal on Foot. When you’re out of a vehicle, pressing down on the D-pad will make Beelzebub instantly drink from his water bottle to heal. It’s much faster than going into the menu, especially in the heat of battle.
- DLC Adds More Than Cosmetics. The “Decal and Special Main Weapon Pack” DLC is free and adds a new main weapon for your Battle Tank, giving you more combat options right from the start.
- Post-Launch Patches. The developers have released patches since launch, like Update 1.05, which primarily focus on bug fixes. Keep your game updated to ensure the smoothest experience.
- Experiment! This is the most important tip. We’ve given you the roadmap, but Sand Land is your adventure. Try out weird vehicle builds, explore off the beaten path, and find your own way to conquer the desert.
Wrapping It Up
