Chapter 1: The First Steps – Character Creation and Your Starting Legacy
Your legend in Avalon begins not on a battlefield, but in a cold, damp prison cell. Before you can face the horrors of the Wyrdness, you must first define who you are. The character creation process in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is your first and most crucial set of choices, laying the foundation for your entire playthrough.
Forging Your Hero: A Guide to the Character Creator 🎨
Upon starting a new game, you’re presented with the character creator, a familiar suite of options for customizing your hero’s appearance. You can choose between a male and female body type and then modify a range of facial features, hairstyles, skin tones, and markings like tattoos and scars. 🧔♀️
While some players have noted that the character models can have a somewhat stylized appearance up close, the full release of the game brought significant visual polish, with improved lighting and a wider, more appealing array of customization options. The hair, in particular, has been praised for its impressive quality.
It’s important to remember that Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is played almost exclusively from a first-person perspective. 👀 While an optional third-person mode exists, the developers themselves have stated it is primarily intended for accessibility and is not as polished as the core first-person experience. Therefore, while you should create a character you are happy with, don’t feel pressured to achieve visual perfection. The choices that truly matter are the ones that define your character’s abilities, which begin in the very next step.
The Interrogation: Shaping Your Origins and Starting Bonuses ❓
In a unique and immersive twist on RPG tradition, your character’s starting skills and attributes are not chosen from a menu. Instead, they are determined by your answers during an interrogation by a prison guard. This narrative-driven approach sets the tone for the game’s focus on role-playing and choice. Each dialogue path you choose defines your character’s background and grants you a specific set of starting skill bonuses, and sometimes even crafting recipes or items. 📜
This is your first opportunity to begin shaping your build. A player aspiring to be a mighty warrior should choose a background that boosts their martial skills, while a budding alchemist should select the path of a hunter who gathers rare materials. Making an informed choice here can give you a significant head start.
The table below details every interrogation path and the precise bonuses each one confers. Use it to align your character’s backstory with your intended playstyle from the very beginning.

The Six Pillars of Power: Understanding the Core Attributes
Your character’s capabilities are defined by six core attributes. Each time you level up, you receive one Attribute Point to invest. Understanding what each attribute does is fundamental to building an effective character.
- Strength 💪: The cornerstone of melee combatants. Each point increases melee damage, boosts your stamina pool, and critically, reduces the weight penalty from heavy armor, allowing you to wear better protection without sacrificing as much mobility.
- Endurance ❤️: Your primary survival attribute. It directly increases your maximum Health, your total Encumbrance limit (carry weight), and your Stamina Regeneration rate, allowing you to perform more actions in combat before becoming exhausted.
- Dexterity 🏹: The attribute of speed and precision. It boosts attack speed with all weapons, increases ranged damage, and makes you quieter and less visible while sneaking. It is essential for archers, rogues, and any build that relies on fast attacks.
- Spirituality 🔮: The heart of all magical endeavors. It increases your maximum Mana 💧, your Mana Regeneration rate, and the power of your spells. A must-have for any aspiring mage or hybrid spellsword.
- Perception 👁️: Governs your awareness and ability to exploit enemy weaknesses. It increases your critical hit chance and is vital for stealth-based gameplay, enhancing sneak efficiency and lockpicking success. It also influences dialogue checks for persuasion.
- Practicality 🛠️: A versatile attribute that influences your interaction with the world’s systems. It improves the quality of crafted items, increases the gold you receive when selling loot, and reduces the stamina and mana cost of abilities.
A crucial system that many new players overlook is the direct link between attributes and gear effectiveness. Most weapons and armor pieces in Avalon have minimum attribute requirements. If you equip an item without meeting these stats, its bonuses will be severely reduced—often by half. This means that finding a powerful, high-level sword is useless if you haven’t invested the necessary points in Strength.
This creates a powerful incentive for specialization. Because you only gain one attribute point per level, spreading your points thinly across multiple attributes is a trap that leads to mediocrity. You’ll find yourself unable to effectively use the best gear for any single playstyle. The most effective path to power is to choose a primary and secondary attribute that align with your desired build and invest in them consistently.
Foundational Builds: Recommended Setups for New Players
To help you start your journey on the right foot, here are three recommended foundational builds. These templates provide a clear path for your first 10-15 levels, ensuring you make strong, synergistic choices from the outset.
The Stalwart Knight (Melee Tank) 🛡️
- Concept: A durable warrior who wades into battle with heavy armor and a powerful two-handed weapon, capable of both dealing and absorbing immense punishment.
- Interrogation: “I was on my way to enlist in the army.” -> “Infantry.” This provides a strong starting base in One-Handed, Blocking, and Heavy Armor skills.
- Primary Attribute: Strength. Every point should go here until you can comfortably wear heavy armor and wield two-handed weapons without issue.
- Secondary Attribute: Endurance. Once you have a solid Strength base (around 8-10), start alternating points into Endurance for more health and stamina regeneration.
- Early Gameplay: Focus on mastering blocking and parrying. Your goal is to outlast your opponents, trading blows and using your high armor to mitigate damage.
The Cunning Ranger (Ranged/Stealth) 🎯
- Concept: A nimble archer who uses stealth and mobility to eliminate targets from a distance before they can react.
- Interrogation: “I was avoiding city guards.” -> “Give me a bow, and you’ll see for yourself.” This grants a high starting Archery skill and bonuses to Evasion and Sneak.
- Primary Attribute: Dexterity. This is your most important stat, boosting ranged damage and stealth.
- Secondary Attribute: Perception. After investing 5-6 points in Dexterity, start adding points to Perception to increase your critical hit chance and sneak attack damage.
- Early Gameplay: Avoid direct confrontations. Use the environment to your advantage, staying in shadows and on high ground. Open combat with a powerful sneak attack and use your dash ability to maintain distance from charging enemies.
The Aspiring Sorcerer (Magic Caster) 🔥
- Concept: A powerful mage who controls the battlefield with destructive spells and summoned allies.
- Interrogation: “I was seeking an ancient site of worship.” -> “No, I’d rather burn that tree down.” This gives you a great starting bonus in Magic and Light Armor, along with the Burning Ember spell.
- Primary Attribute: Spirituality. Every single point should go here for the first 10 levels to maximize your mana pool, regeneration, and spell power.
- Secondary Attribute: Endurance. Magic can be draining, and you’ll need stamina to dodge and reposition. Once your Spirituality is around 10, start adding points to Endurance.
- Early Gameplay: Your greatest asset is range. Keep enemies at a distance and use your spells to control the flow of battle. The starting Burning Ember spell is excellent for applying damage-over-time. If you find a summoning spell early on, use your minions to distract enemies while you cast from safety.
Chapter 2: The Ways of the World – Core Gameplay Mechanics
Avalon is more than just a collection of dungeons and monsters; it’s a living, breathing world governed by ancient rules and encroaching chaos. Understanding its core mechanics is essential for survival. This chapter will guide you through the fundamental systems of exploration, survival, and progression that define your day-to-day existence in this fallen kingdom.
Navigating a Fallen Kingdom: Exploration, Menhirs, and Travel 🗺️
The island of Avalon is a vast open world, divided into three principal zones: the misty, autumnal forests of the Horns of the South, the sun-drenched but politically treacherous region of Cuanacht, and the frozen, giant-haunted peaks of the Forlorn Swords. You are free to explore at your own pace, forging your own path through a world packed with discoveries, from hidden items and story secrets to unique enemies and over 200 side quests.
Your exploration is governed by the Menhirs 🗿, ancient standing stones that once held the Wyrdness at bay. As the game begins, these Menhirs are going dark, allowing the chaotic energies of the Wyrdness to reclaim the land. From a narrative standpoint, these monoliths are humanity’s last defense; lighting them is a heroic act that pushes back the veil of chaos and saves the land.
However, it’s crucial to understand how this system functions in gameplay. The Menhir system functions less as a strict world simulation and more as a player-centric “fog of war” mechanic. Think of lighting a Menhir not as literally saving the land in that instant, but as you, the player, gaining the power and protection needed to safely venture into and perceive a new part of the map.
To traverse these vast distances, you’ll want to acquire a mount. A horse 🐎 can be found relatively early in the game, located under the King’s Road Bridge in the Horns of the South. Simply approach and mount it to claim it as your own, after which you can summon it at any time.
Surviving the Wyrdnight: The Day/Night Cycle and Its Terrors 🌙
Avalon operates on a full day/night cycle, and when darkness falls, the world changes. The Wyrdness, a chaotic primordial force, descends upon the land, altering the very fabric of reality. This phenomenon, known as “Wyrdnight,” introduces a significant survival challenge. The air grows thick with mist, familiar landscapes can become twisted and alien, and enemies become fiercer and more numerous. 👻
Traveling at night is a high-risk, high-reward proposition. The enhanced enemies that spawn during Wyrdnight are more dangerous, but they also have a chance to drop valuable Unidentified Items 🎁 and a crucial crafting resource, Ethereal Cobwebs. These Unidentified Items, once identified at a bonfire, can turn into powerful gear or rare consumables.
If you must rest in the wilderness, you can create a simple bonfire. However, resting at an unprotected campfire carries the risk of being ambushed by Wyrd spirits. Should this happen, you’ll be woken from your slumber and forced into a fight. Interestingly, players have discovered a simple way to bypass this danger: if an ambush is triggered, you can simply interact with the bonfire again to continue sleeping until morning, effectively hitting a “snooze button” on the Wyrdness. 😴
The Bonfire’s Embrace: A Guide to Healing, Crafting, and Leveling in the Field 🔥
Bonfires are your lifeline in the wilds of Avalon. These temporary encampments are far more than just a place to pass the time; they are versatile hubs that allow you to perform many essential actions without needing to return to a town.
At any bonfire, you can:
- Rest 💤: Advance time, fully heal your health, and restore your mana and stamina. Resting in a proper bed within a town or your house grants the “Well Rested” buff, which increases all experience gain by 10% for a short time.
- Level Up 🔼: Access your character screen to spend any accumulated Attribute and Skill Points.
- Craft 🔧: Access the full suite of crafting systems—Handcrafting, Alchemy, and Cooking. Crucially, all crafting stations, including bonfires, have direct access to every material stored in your main stash. This is a vital quality-of-life feature!
- Identify Items 🔍: Use Ethereal Cobwebs to identify the Unidentified Items dropped by Wyrdnight enemies.
The Chronicler’s Task: Using Your Journal and Tracking Quests 📓
With over 200 side quests woven into its branching narrative, keeping track of your objectives can be a daunting task. Your primary tool for this is your Journal, which automatically logs your active quests and provides summaries of your progress. The game also features a sketchbook journaling system, adding an immersive, personal touch to your chronicle of your adventures.
A critical piece of advice for managing quests: do not discard quest items. ❗️ Many quests involve finding books, notes, or pages. While it may be tempting to sell or drop these items to save inventory space, doing so can permanently break the quest’s progression, leaving it impossible to complete. It’s highly recommended to keep all unique books and documents in your inventory or stash until the corresponding quest is officially marked as complete in your journal.
Chapter 3: The Art of Combat – Mastering Blade, Bow, and Spell
Combat in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is a deliberate and often brutal affair. Inspired by the first-person combat of games like The Elder Scrolls but with a darker, more punishing edge, it demands patience, timing, and a deep understanding of its core mechanics.
The Dance of Steel: Fundamentals of Melee Combat, Parrying, and Blocking ⚔️
The melee combat in Tainted Grail is designed to feel weighty and impactful. It’s a system built on stamina management and a rock-paper-scissors-like interplay between attacking, blocking, and dodging.
- Attacking: You have a standard light attack and a chargeable heavy attack. Both consume stamina.
- Blocking 🛡️: Holding up a shield or weapon will block incoming attacks, reducing or negating the damage at the cost of stamina. A powerful blow can stagger you even if you block it.
- Parrying ✨: The most skillful defensive maneuver. By timing your block just as an enemy attack is about to land, you can perform a parry. A successful parry deflects all damage, drains the attacker’s stamina, and knocks them off balance. The parry window is extremely tight, making it a high-risk, high-reward technique.
- Dashing 💨: Your primary tool for evasion. Dashing provides a moment of invincibility, allowing you to phase through attacks completely. It consumes a “dash charge” and stamina. Dashing is the only reliable way to avoid area-of-effect attacks.
The Ranger’s Path: Effective Ranged Combat Strategies 🏹
Archery in Tainted Grail can feel underpowered if you try to play like a traditional “stealth archer.” The enemy AI is extremely aggressive and will rush you down relentlessly. A stationary sniper will quickly find themselves overwhelmed.
The key to success is to abandon the static sniper mindset and embrace the role of a mobile Skirmish Archer. 🏃♂️ Your strategy should revolve around kiting—maintaining distance while peppering your foe with arrows.
To build an effective Skirmish Archer, you must invest not only in the Bows skill tree but also heavily in the Movement tree under the Dexterity attribute. Skills like Agility (reduce dash cost), Temporal Slip (slow time on slide), and control abilities like Shadowbind Arrows (slows enemies) are crucial. This turns the enemy’s aggression into a predictable advantage, letting you bait them, dash aside, and fire into their flank.
Harnessing the Wyrd: A Primer on Magic and Spellcasting 🪄
Magic in Avalon is a versatile and potent force. Spells are physical items that you equip to your left or right hand, just like a weapon or shield. This intuitive system allows for incredible flexibility. You can:
- Dual-wield spells for elemental combos. 🔥❄️
- Create a Spellsword with a sword and a spell. ⚔️🔮
- Play a traditional Battlemage with a spell and a shield. 🔮🛡️
Most spells have both a “light” and “heavy” cast. A quick tap unleashes a fast, low-cost version, while holding the button charges up a more powerful, mana-intensive variant.
Summoning spells are particularly valuable, especially in the early game. A summoned wolf 🐺 or gremlin can keep a powerful enemy occupied, giving you the breathing room needed to heal, reposition, or unleash your most devastating spells from a safe distance.
Advanced Combat Tactics: Stamina, Weak Spots, and Armor Weight
- Stamina Management: Your stamina bar is your most important resource. If you let it completely deplete, you will enter a state of “Overexertion,” leaving you unable to perform any action for several seconds. This is often a death sentence.
- Targeting Weak Spots 🎯: Most enemies have a designated weak spot, such as their head. Hitting these areas with a physical attack results in significant bonus damage. Magic spells, however, cannot trigger weak spot damage.
- Armor Weight ⚖️: The total weight of your equipped armor has a profound impact on your combat style.
Load Tier | Weight | Effects | Dash Charges |
Light Load | < 20% | +20% to speed & regen | 3 |
Medium Load | 20-50% | No bonuses or penalties | 2 |
Heavy Load | 50-100% | -10% to speed & regen | 1 |
Overloaded | > 100% | Massive penalties | 0 |
The Unkillable Foe: How to Survive and Defeat the Wyrdknight 👻⚔️
After you acquire a certain artifact during the main quest, you will begin to attract the attention of a terrifying entity during Wyrdnight. This massive, four-armed ghostly knight—the Wyrdknight—is one of the most formidable enemies in the game. It will appear randomly at night and relentlessly hunt you down.
- Mechanics: It has immense health, hits like a truck, and will despawn at dawn or if you run too far away.
- Winning Strategies:
- The Bleed Build: The knight is vulnerable to Bleed. Stack it with spells or weapons. 🩸
- The Stun Lock: Its greatest weakness is its stamina. Use skills that drain enemy stamina to break its posture, then unleash heavy attacks to keep it stun-locked.
- Pure Evasion: For squishier builds, the only path to victory is flawless evasion. Master its attack timings and use all your dash charges.
- Rewards 🏆: Defeating the Wyrdknight is well worth the effort. It drops a large amount of Ethereal Cobwebs and several high-quality Unidentified Items, making it one of the best sources of top-tier loot in the game. It also respawns after a few nights!
Chapter 4: The Path to Power – Skills, Perks, and Character Progression
Leveling up in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is only the beginning. True power comes from how you invest your points, transforming your character from a struggling survivor into a legendary champion.
Learning by Doing: How Skill Proficiency Works 📈
Alongside your main character level, the game features a “learn by doing” proficiency system for 15 different skills, such as One-Handed, Archery, Blocking, and Alchemy. Each of these skills has a level from 1 to 100. You gain experience in a skill simply by performing the associated action.
Each level gained in a proficiency provides a small, passive bonus. While minor on their own, they accumulate over time and provide a steady sense of progression that rewards you for sticking with a particular playstyle.
Deep Dive: The Skill Trees
The heart of character customization lies in the six main skill trees, each one tied to a core attribute. Every time you level up, you gain one Skill Point to invest. Higher tiers of each tree unlock as you invest more points into the corresponding attribute.

Building Your Champion: Advanced Build Guides
With a full understanding of the available skills, you can begin to craft highly specialized and powerful character builds for the late game.
The Unbreakable Juggernaut (2H Lifesteal Tank) 🩸
- Concept: This build turns you into a self-sustaining engine of destruction. By combining the high damage of two-handed weapons with lifesteal and heavy armor, you can simply stand your ground and out-heal almost any damage you take.
- Attributes: Strength, Endurance.
- Key Skills: Focus on skills that grant lifesteal on two-handed attacks, increase health, and boost damage. The Born In Armor and The Best Offense skills are fantastic for turning your high armor value into more damage.
- Strategy: Charge into combat, use heavy attacks to stagger and cleave through groups, and watch as your health bar refills with every swing.
The Ghostly Assassin (Stealth Dagger Crit) 👻🔪
- Concept: The ultimate glass cannon. This build focuses on the Ghostly Blade perk to deal astronomical damage from stealth, capable of one-shotting most non-boss enemies.
- Attributes: Perception, Dexterity.
- Key Skills: Ghostly Blade (+200% sneak attack damage) is the cornerstone. Combine it with perks that increase crouch speed (Lightfoot Stalker) and critical damage (Finishing Blow).
- Gear: The Assassin’s Armor Set and Wolf’s Fang daggers will multiply your sneak damage to absurd levels.
- Strategy: Remain unseen. Move slowly, stick to the shadows, and use your enhanced crouch speed to position yourself behind enemies for a single, devastating backstab.
The Master Summoner (Minion Commander) 🧙♂️🐺💀
- Concept: Why fight your own battles when you can have an army do it for you? This build focuses on the Spirituality tree to summon a horde of minions that will overwhelm your enemies through sheer numbers.
- Attributes: Spirituality, Endurance.
- Key Skills: Take every perk in the Summoning tree, especially Astral Bonds (increases summon limit to 5) and Power Conduit (increases your spell power per active summon).
- Strategy: Your role is that of a commander. Summon your full retinue of minions, who will charge in and draw all aggression. From a safe distance, you can support them with debuffs or damage spells, all while your Power Conduit perk massively boosts your own spell power.
The Potion of Origin: How and When to Respec Your Character 🧪
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon provides a way to reset your attribute and skill points, but it is a limited resource: the Potion of Origin. These rare potions can be found in hidden chests or as a rare drop from Unidentified Items. Because of their scarcity, you should use them wisely.
The most powerful use of an Origin Potion is for strategic, temporary respecs. The most notable example is the “Practicality Respec Loop” for money-making (detailed in Chapter 6). A player can hoard crafting materials, use one potion to pour every point into Practicality and trading perks, craft and sell everything for a massive profit, then use a second potion to switch back to their combat build. 💰
Chapter 5: The Forges of Avalon – A Complete Crafting Guide
In the desolate lands of Avalon, self-sufficiency is a necessity. To truly thrive, you must master the arts of crafting. All crafting systems can be accessed from their respective stations in towns or from any bonfire in the wild, and all stations have full access to your central stash.
The Blacksmith’s Art: Crafting Weapons and Armor (Handcrafting) 🔨
The Handcrafting skill allows you to create weapons, armor, arrows, and tools at a Grindstone or Workbench. You can learn new recipes by finding or purchasing recipe books. The quality of the items you craft is determined by your Handcrafting proficiency level.
Armor Set | Pieces | Primary Bonus | Required Materials (Example: Vest) |

From the Land: A Guide to Gathering, Mining, Fishing, and Farming
To fuel your crafting endeavors, you must gather resources from the world of Avalon.
- Gathering 🌿: Harvesting plants like Sage, Carnations, and Milkweed.
- Mining ⛏️: Using a pickaxe to extract ores like Copper and Iron.
- Lumbering 🪓: Using a woodcutter’s axe to chop wood from trees.
- Fishing 🎣: Using a fishing rod at designated spots to catch fish.
- Hunting 🦌: Defeating animals to gather pelts, claws, and other components.
- Farming 🌱: A system that allows you to cultivate plants for a renewable source of ingredients.
Empowering Your Gear: Upgrading and Attaching Relics ✨
- Upgrading: This is the most direct way to improve your gear. By spending gold and materials like Sharpening Stones, you can increase an item’s level, which boosts its base damage or armor value.
- Attaching Relics 💎: Relics are rare items that can be socketed into weapons and armor to grant powerful passive effects. You can attach up to two Relics per item, allowing you to add effects like lifesteal, bonus critical damage, or unique proc effects to your favorite equipment.
Chapter 6: The Weight of Coin – Economy and Trading Masterclass
Gold is the engine of power in Avalon. It’s required for buying recipes, powerful equipment, and the costly process of upgrading your gear. While you’ll earn a modest income from quests, the true path to wealth lies in mastering the game’s economy.
The Road to Riches: Advanced Gold Farming Strategies 🤑
The single most effective method for accumulating vast amounts of gold is the “Practicality Respec Loop.” This strategy leverages the powerful synergy between the Practicality attribute, crafting, and the limited availability of Origin Potions.
The core principle is that the Practicality attribute has a dramatic impact on sell prices. At 1 Practicality, you sell items for 10% of their value. At 50 Practicality, this skyrockets to an incredible 500%! 📈 Combined with crafting perks, you can turn cheap ingredients into products worth a fortune.
Here is a step-by-step guide:
- The Hoarding Phase: Play the game normally with your combat build, but do not sell your crafting ingredients. Hoard everything in your stash for a significant portion of the game to build up a massive stockpile.
- The Respec: Once you have a large stockpile and at least two Potions of Origin, save your game. Drink one Potion of Origin to reset all your points.
- The Investment: Reallocate all of your Attribute Points into Practicality. Invest your Skill Points into the Crafting & Trading tree, prioritizing perks that increase sell price and duplicate crafted items.
- The Production Phase: Go to a town hub. Buy out all the ingredients from vendors. Use your stockpile and the new materials to mass-produce the most valuable potions and meals you can.
- The Payday 💰: Sell your entire inventory of crafted goods. With your massively inflated sell prices, you will generate an enormous profit. One player reported earning over 110,000 gold in a single session using this method!
- The Reversion: Once you have your fortune, drink your second Potion of Origin and respec back into your combat build. You are now free to use your wealth to upgrade all your gear to its maximum level.
Shadow Markets: A Guide to Fences and Stolen Goods 🤫
Early in your adventure, you may notice that items marked as “Stolen” cannot be sold to regular merchants. The ability to offload these illicit goods becomes available in Act 2, once you reach the region of Cuanacht. There, you can find special vendors known as fences who will gladly purchase your stolen items. Look for NPCs like Bonxie or Filth to access this shadow market. 💼
Chapter 7: A House in the Wyrdness – Player Housing and Building
Amidst the chaos of Avalon, the opportunity to claim a small piece of the world for yourself offers a welcome respite. Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon features a player housing system, allowing you to acquire and decorate your own personal sanctuary. 🏡
Finding a Home: How to Acquire Player Housing
There are two primary ways to acquire a house in each of the game’s major zones:
- Purchase: Each main hub area has a house available for purchase, with prices starting around 20,000 gold. To buy one, find a “For Sale” sign near the property and interact with it.
- Quests: In each zone, there is also a hidden quest that can reward you with a house for free or at a reduced price. In the Horns of the South, this involves a series of quests for a high-born lady named Alisa. By helping her and pursuing a romance ❤️, she will eventually offer you a room in her grand mansion, which then becomes your player home.
Making It Your Own: The Decoration System 🛋️
Once you have a house, you can customize its interior. The system is straightforward: the house has predefined “slots” for different types of furniture (e.g., a bed slot, a table slot). You enter “Decor Mode” and select which furniture piece you want to place in each available slot. Merchants in major towns sell a variety of furniture items for this purpose. 🖼️
A Place for Everything: Using Your Stash and Home Storage 📦
Player houses come equipped with a stash chest and a full set of crafting stations. However, it’s important to understand the game’s highly convenient quality-of-life features. The game features a universal stash system; any item deposited into any stash chest is accessible from every other stash chest in the world. Furthermore, all crafting stations can pull materials directly from this universal stash.
Because of these features, the storage and crafting stations within a player house are, from a purely functional standpoint, redundant. You should view player housing not as a necessary utility, but as an enjoyable, optional feature for role-playing, decoration, and immersion.
Chapter 8: The Powers That Be – Factions and Politics of Avalon
Avalon is a land of fractured loyalties and competing ideologies. You will encounter several powerful factions, and you can choose to align yourself with some of them, undertaking unique questlines that will have a significant impact on the world and provide powerful rewards.
Choosing a Side: A Spoiler-Free Faction Overview
- The Morrigan Crows 🦉: A shadowy organization of spies and assassins who operate in the dark, manipulating events for what they believe is the greater good. Their questline is filled with intrigue and espionage.
- The Alchemist Guild ⚗️: A secretive group of researchers and mystics dedicated to studying the Wyrdness and other arcane phenomena. Joining them will lead you to uncover ancient secrets.
- The Stonewardens 🔨: A reclusive and honorable order of master blacksmiths who possess ancient knowledge of forging. Their path is one of tradition and craftsmanship.
Joining the Ranks: How to Start Each Faction Questline
The starting quests for these major factions are not obviously marked and can be easy to miss. Here is how to begin your journey with each group:
How to Join the Morrigan Crows
- Quest: Spread Your Wings.
- Location: Find a man named Vidar imprisoned in a cage in an unmarked bandit camp in the Horns of the South. The camp is located directly east of the Abandoned Village fast travel point.
- Action: Defeat the bandits, free Vidar, and agree to meet him later. To join the Crows, you must side with the Children of Morrigan and allow them to take Vidar.
How to Join the Alchemist Guild
- Quest: Whispers in the Dark.
- Location: Find a secret character named Taranis in a hidden cave called the Mistbearer’s Den. This cave is in the far northern part of the Horns of the South. Follow a path marked by numerous stone statues to find the entrance.
- Action: Speak with Taranis inside the cave. Agree to his “collaboration” to start the quest. Completing his task will grant you membership.
How to Join the Stonewardens
- Quest: Echoes in Stone.
- Location: Go to the All-Mother’s Temple in the Horns of the South region.
- Action: Speak to an NPC named Ugh’we and ask him about the local factions, then express your desire to join the Stonewardens. This will trigger the quest and set you on the path to finding them in the subsequent regions.
Chapter 9: Beyond the Fall – DLCs and Post-Launch Content
The full release of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is just the beginning of the journey. The developers have continued to support the game with updates and additional content.
The Supporter’s Pack: What You Get
For players who wish to show extra support, a paid DLC called the “Supporter’s Pack” is available. It includes:
- The complete Original Soundtrack 🎵 (MP3/WAV)
- A digital Artbook 🎨 (PDF)
- Gold Horse Armor 🐎✨ (In a humorous nod to another famous RPG)
A New Beginning: Understanding New Game+ 🔄
Added in Update 1.1, New Game+ (NG+) allows you to restart the main story campaign after completing it, while carrying over your character’s level, skills, and attributes. This mode is designed for players who want to re-experience the story, make different choices, or tackle the game’s challenges on a higher difficulty.
Forging Your Look: The Transmogrification System 🎭
Also introduced in Update 1.1, the Transmogrification (Transmog) System is a cosmetic feature that allows you to change the appearance of your equipped armor and weapons to look like any other piece of gear you have collected. You no longer have to choose between the best stats and your favorite look!
